Addressing Israel’s Nursing and OT Shortage.
Bridging Gaps for Ethiopian-Israelis. More than a scholarship.
For over a century, Hadassah has been at the forefront of Israel’s healthcare and medical education, building hospitals, training medical professionals, and advancing groundbreaking research. Today, as Israel faces the challenges of war and recovery, the demand for graduate nurses and occupational therapists has never been greater.
The Hadassah-Achotenu Ethiopian-Israeli University Scholarships in Health transform lives — strengthening Israel’s healthcare system and creating life-changing opportunities for the marginalised Ethiopian community.
Despite their resilience and dedication, many Ethiopian-Israelis continue to face socio-economic challenges. Limited access to higher education, economic disparities, and structural barriers have hindered their ability to realise their full potential.
Your support will provide a direct path to success for Ethiopian-Israeli students to graduate as nurses and occupational therapists. For many, they are the first in their family to study at university.
Together, we can address Israel’s chronic nursing shortage, and build better futures for them, their communities and Israel as a whole.

Israel’s Nursing and Occupational Therapist Shortage
Israel’s significant shortage of nurses and OTs is putting a strain on its healthcare system.
The OECD has found that Israel must train an additional 1,000 graduate nurses per annum to provide the community with effective healthcare.
Training more nurses is crucial to strengthening healthcare outcomes in Israel. This scholarship program is directly responding to this need.
The immense sacrifice of Ethiopian-Israeli Soldiers
The dedication of Ethiopian-Israelis to the IDF is reflected in their sacrifice and excellence on the battlefield. Ten of the 120 recipients of the 2024
President’s Award for Outstanding Soldiers were Ethiopian-Israelis, five times their representation in the general population.
